Maxtoch SN6X-2 upgrade soon....

Print Post
Email from Maxtoch staff today and they confirm the upgrade for the SN6X-2 is going into production in March. They also confirm price via Aliexpress will drop back to $51US delivered.

"As soon as the holiday is over, we will start discount and the final price is around usd51.00 as before. We will keep the retail price at around usd51.00 including shipping cost.  The SN6X-2s production is arranged in March. We just finish the production schedule arrangement. Now the schedule is fixed.  It will be 20%-30% brighter than present SN6X-2. "

Wooooo...can't wait to get my hands on this new one. SN is already a legend and selling in big numbers to kiwi hunters. A power increase of 20-30% will be amazing - and all for about $60NZ delivered!!

I'll take a couple of new ones and might even shoot one up to young Ben (Manualman) - it is possible to double their lux output without too much trouble.. Shocked Shocked  Have to say that in a long hunting career this is one of the best bits of kit I've come across - esp for the price.

Get one. With the right batts and charger.

I'll have the new test sample in march and we'll see how it goes. But don't rush to get rid of your present SNs - they really are great hunting lights.

Have just asked about XML2, or how otherwise they gained the output increase.

I could possibly do a bulk order but these lights are becoming mega popular and would have to bring 30-40 over in 2-3 parcels. Alot of work tracking people's dollars and doing post so would prob have to charge an extra $10-12 each...  Mind you at bulk purchase rates that would still only bring them up to about $62NZ including delivery by Fedex here and then NZpost to buyers. Might be possible.... Pain in the arse but might be possible   Smiley

I think I'm going to have to get 1 of these Smiley

Can you put the direct link to the torch when they release it please Mike.

Unless someone is going to do a bulk buy, then I'll put my name down on the list.

She'd be a beaut wallaby slayer on top of the 223 Cambo.

Having just blown $13k on flights for European trip later this year there is no way I can waste $60 to upgrade the SN6-X2 I already have.   Angry

I need a new head torch though. The XML's look promising for that.

7135s are only rated to 6 volts so not enough for 2 18650s. It is easier to make highly efficient 2x18650 drivers then single 18650 drivers.

This looks good for a single 18650 light:

http://www.intl-outdoor.com/4a-3mode-2745v-circuit-board-p-546.html

They have the same for 2X18650 lights but they only put out 3 amps... my guess is with changing some resistors you could get 4 amps from it. The only other option I have found costs $25 for the circuit board alone.

Further cause to believe they are changing the XML to a XM-L2 in the new SN is most suppliers state March as Crees delivery date of the XM-L2s they have on order. De-domed should make for an easy 120-140K lux.

Reply just in from Maxtoch:

"Yes, we will use new XML2 LED. Smiley "

Ben that's going to make some further upgrades relatively inexpensive - copper sheet, copper board for LED, de-dome etc, doubling the power output for less than $20 more.

Key question - will these upgrades decrease present runtime of about 100-110 minutes on full noise with good batts? Certainly increasing amps will?

Yes an increase in draw will effect battery life but a simple de-dome wont. Copper board will also have no effect on battery life but will prevent most of the thermal sag that happens during warm up.

e.g an XML going from 1000 -> 800 lumen after 2 minutes with a normal board should go from 1000 - > 900 lumen after 2 minutes with the copper board... you will have a hard time noticing that reduction in output unless you have the two side by side however copper comes into its own if you want to push the LED harder (4 amps, 1300-1400 lm).

Another option might be to cut the input down 20-30% and have the same output as the original SN but with an extra 20 minutes run time.

LED manufacturer Cree rates optimum output of new XML2s at 1198 lumens - against earlier T6 XMLs at about 975 lumens = more like 20% gain than 30%. We'll see...

I have asked Maxtoch also if they will send me some spare XML2 LEDs. If they do, upgrading the present SNs will be easy and inexpensive. We will however still have to do some high performance developments on some SNs. It is certainly possible and can produce awesome results as the OSTS torch shows. This light went from 48k lux to 117k:
