Kaingaroa and Rotoehu now charging access permit fees

Independent security and Kaingaroa Timberlands are now charging $50 for access permits for the up and coming hunting season and this includes fishing access to the Rangitaiki and flaxy canal etc.

This fee according to Independent security and Colin Maunder From Kaingaroa Timberlands is to cover costs of security guards and the $40,000 system they put in place for permits.

Also they feel that people have had a good run with free permits over the years that they now feel there is a need for charging a fee on the permits. Iwi still get their permits for free and less restricted access ( they get weekends and either side of work hours during the week).

Also Kaingaroa Timberlands have said that none of the monies collected from the permit fees will be going to the Iwi but will be split between themselves and Independent Security.

So if you wish to go fishing or hunting of any kind in Kaingaroa or Rotoehu be prepared to be charged $50 for a permit. This year I will not be having anything to do with Kaingaroa and told Colin Maunders that very thing.

Goodbye Kaingaroa it was good while it lasted.
