Have been using a cheapish tent for a while and the zips are starting to break, Am pretty keen to get a decent tent, does any 1 have 1 and what are your thoughts about MSR hubba hubba 2 person tent?
Also where is the best place to buy from a retail store?

Cheers.

Keep an eye out on trade me man, especially as winter aproaches if you can wait for a bit, i got mine (used for one week over christmas) for $360 from memory. It's a good solid tent, good size for one big person or two midgets. Only thing i didn't like about mine is the fly always seems to sit on the inner at one point, doesn't affect it, just bugs me when i wake up and see something that looks wet  Angry.

and get what you've always got.

I've got one and I'm really happy with it, last weekend it was raining and windy and I stayed completely dry inside it, no complaints from me.

I bought one from moontrail.com. Came with a free msr whisperlite international stove.

I'm happy with it although I did get blown off the tops in the Ruahines at 3 in the morning recently. So if you like camping on tops in 100km/h+ winds... I wouldn't recommend it.

I think coxy (forum member) can get them for a good price. If you buy MSR from moontrail, there is no warranty.

Its a 3 season tent, which for NZ, means its not suitable for like mt cook over 3000m for like 30 days a year. They are pretty rugged, but the 4 season geodesics and tunnels handle the wind better.

Only problem is they are twice the weight and 50% more expensive.

Moontrail is a great company though, I bought the marmot limelight off them and its perfect. Not quite on par with the hubba hubba for usability (vestibule is small) but for $300 NZ I like it.

I wouldnt hesitate buying the limelight again, but If I was gonna be doing longer trips, id get the hubba hubba or carbon reflex.

The story with the warranty from Moontrail (as they told it to me anyway) was that if you had an issue that you could fix yourself they would send your spare parts. Otherwise you send the tent back to them and they send it to MSR in the states. So you do have coverage, you just have to pay postage.

but yeah like you say crnkin, not a tent for when you're above the bushline and it's really blowing. For the weight its a versatile piece of kit though.

Got one about a month ago and have only been able to use it once so far. My big test for it will be this years roar trip. Bloody great tent, quick and easy to put up and very stable..... should have got one ten years ago  Smiley Smiley Smiley

great tent, a prick to put up in the rain, but is watertight once it's up.
GREAT Kaimanawa blowie catcher. Cheesy
The 2011 models have a green fly so might not happen

I fear her daily, but sometimes she likes me
