This thread is meant to assist with names of folk that might be happy to share info. on access details into certain Wapiti blocks and can be contacted via PM's on this forum.
I had to ask for help on my first forays there, talking to the water taxi operator Vern in Te Anau and did lots of readings of guide books/articles and old Hunting books Moirs Guide The Eye of the Hunter Rod & Rifle series of articles
etc.
But if people can add in their names on this thread for first-hand experience they're happy to pass on.
There are many v e r y experienced Fiordland hunters on this forum. People using the resource please respect the hard-earned knowledge offered.
To start a list then;
Creed: Eastern side, the more 'front' blocks from Mid-Burn/Lugar/Glaisnock areas of North Arm.
Hunting adventures - they're out there!

There are a total of 25 wapiti blocks situated on the eastern and western side of the main divide to the west of Lake Te Anau. The blocks ringed by the dashed line are in the Glaisnock Wilderness area. Access onto the blocks in the wilderness area is to the shoreline only. The Upper Glaisnock, block 10 is accessed by walking only. You can land on the shoreline by boat, helicopter or float plane but cannot be landed any where else in the block. The exception to this is the Dark River, block 2 where you can be landed at the head of Lake Grave.
The blocks outside the wilderness zone, blocks 14-19 and 21-23 can be accessed at any point you like so if you want you can be dropped on the tops. Blocks 18 & 19 are dissected by the wilderness area so you can only be dropped on the tops to the south of the line.
There are huts on the Lower Glaisnock, Worsely, Lake Katherine, Wapiti River and Loch Burn blocks and also a historic hut at the head of Caswell Sound that would be of use to those hunting the Mt Tanilba and Stillwater blocks. There is also a hut at the mouth of the Junction Burn beside the Doon block. The huts on the Wapiti River and Lochburn blocks are on the boundary of the wilderness area so you can be landed at these by helicopter.

You can get to the wapiti blocks by boat, helicopter and float plane.
Some of the main operators are listed below but there are of course others. Make sure you ring around to get prices as they can differ depending on which block you are going to and where the operator is based in relation to the block. For instance the northern blocks like the Light River, Dark River, Mt Longsight are much cheaper to get to by flying from Milford Sound.
Southern Lakes Helicopters have an office on the Lake Te Anau water front 03 249 7167 info@southernlakeshelicopters.co.nz www.southernlakeshelicopters.co.nz
Fiordland Helicopters are based on the Milford Sound road about 5km out of Te Anau 03 249 7575 info@fiordlandhelicopters.co.nz www.fiordlandhelicopters.co.nz
Milford Helicopters are based at Milford Sound 03 249 7845
The Te Anau based float plane Wings & Water is another option. They can land you on lakes like Marchant, Grave, the fiords etc. 03 249 7405 www.wingsandwater.co.nz
There are commercial boat operators based in Te Anau. The coastal blocks can be accessed by boat from Milford Sound if you have a strong stomach.
