Best Tent Fly for NZ Conditions??????

Currently have a two person tent, which is good for extended trips or when there is an average forcast.

But i am looking for a lightweight fly, at a reasonable cost. Seen a couple like huntech and outer limits flys, I was just woundering whats the cheapest, best leightweight fly on the market out there.

Yes i know you could probally just buy a tarp from the warehouse and some string, but a good quality one would be much better

Without a doudt Huntech!

Spent two days under that fly while fiordland hosed down, we stayed dry and so did all of our gear with plenty of room to move.

Nimrod has had Huntech make one up for him to his specifications so it was of a smaller size.

When it comes to staying dry and warm, don't skimp on cost.

I have tried other flies, such as the warehouse ones, another unknown brand that was of similar size to huntech but all of them failed and leaked... i was amazed at the Huntech one.

+1, like Nimrod I had a smaller (3mx3m) one made up. Still enough room for two people.

Have used the North ridge fly in all sorts of conditions and haven't have any problem with it. Quite big though - find it good for two people and gear, a squeeze and three people + gear is fine too. About half the price of the huntech but I'm not sure I would notice the difference if I did have the huntech - my wallet would.

Its the wrong shape that one?
Long and not wide enough for me and Jamie.
The way they set it up I don't like.
Cheap though/I have one stashed in the bush. I'd not leave a Huntech like that though. Smiley

I have used my Huntec Bivvy tent since about 1994 from new. Camped out all over the Kaimanawa's/Kaweka's and in the South Island - Lewis Pass, Arthurs Pass and tahr hunting though not in snow. Made strong with good quality poles, light and easy to set up and keeps the elements out. Yes you will sometimes get a bit of condesation on the inside of the tent but I don't believe a real problem when travelling light. Only addition in the last couple of yrs is purchasing the Huntec floor for the bivvy tent when I take my boy out hunting.
Also use the huntec bivvy bag if the weather looks real dodgy though during summer months in the alps have used either when hot weather.
The thing with the bivvy tent is that it works as advertised and I think is spot on for the North Island tops hunting. I'm a bit sensitive to those bloody South Island sandflies so use a Macpac tent with mesh anywhere near the valley floors.
Imagine the quality of the huntec fly is the same - very strong.
