...and what do you think of it? I can pick one up for a good price at the moment.
Also considering the leupold VX1 4-12x40 LR duplex which is about the same price. I plan on putting it on a 7mm mag. my new tahr shooter.

I have one and cant complain, the scope does everything i want and more amazing light gathering ability and hard wearing. Its my 2nd 4200 scope and would get another one any day.
Only querry would be if it had enough magnification for longer shots ie 300m+?

i've got one but no idea what it will be like at really long range. tho i got a fallow at 240 yards and it was fine for that.
main reason i got it was simply because its bright and i tend to loose a fair bit of light through the glasses.

they are meant to be equivalent to vx2 or maybe vx3. i would certainly have it over a vx1. either its cheap or the vx1 is expensive.

yeah, thats why I was also looking at the vx1 maybe not quite the glass quality but a bit more zoom..   Undecided
The long range reticle on the leupy might be handy too.

The 4-16x40 in the 4200 is a hell of a good scope too. (this was what i used to have, downgraded for bush stalking) Quite a bit more expensive about $1200 but you never know, might be able to find a 2nd hand one somewhere

thanks Cleaky. That's about my max budget I work it out at $675NZD inc gst. Is the firefly the go eh? not battery powered I hope..

As BC says the 4200 elite 3-9x40 is excellent value at about $450NZD providing the tax man doesn't have a go at it.

I just noticed it on special while I was looking for something else. It had a bit more zoom (10x) so I thought I'd throw it into the ring for you to have a squiz at. Can't remember having ever seen a firefly scope so I can't say sorry, my basic Elite 3200 3-9 is the mutts nuts as far as I'm concerned. The 4200 can only be better.  Smiley

I bought one for my son's 284W,  liked its brightness and ended up getting one for my 7 WSM.

Bought each at the Optic Zone (web address is above and found them good to deal with, and a much better price than in Oz.

Although the Bushnell does not provide as sharp an image as the Zeiss, it's a lot cheaper.

Mind you keep the turret caps tight, as it takes only a few turns for them to come off. Apart from that, no probs with either.

short exposure to the direct light from a torch or headlight will charge the FireFly reticle so that it glows green. No batteries needed
