Why a 270

Why did I buy an oldish BAR 270, because I wanted to, it has a little crack in the forstock, and excellant looking bore, it carries a guarantee of a 2" group at 100 yds or a written promise of a refund.
I have been looking for some time for a 300 yarder, this rifle was on Hunting and Fishings website in Whakatane, they sent it up to Takanini F&G for me to look at which I did and then talked to them (Whakatane)about price, specifications of performance etc.
Sent the payment by home computor.
Excellant service, thankyou F&G stores.

Im not sure either seems a bit like the 7mm08 thread below. However it does sound like you recieved some great service in sending the rifle around the country to be viewed and then even able to barter about price which can only be a good thing

Bit of both, I get sick of endless discussions re calibre, but am pleased with what I have and have said so, many complaints are published here so it seemed worthy of me to say "something nice"

-applause-

Smiley

There isn't enough of this sort of thing.

At the range the other day, I bumped into the guy who sold me my rifle some years ago when he was working at a local gun shop. I took the time to thank him for the advice he offered at the time. I have been happy with the rifle since the day I bought it, and felt he deserved to know it.

The BAR will always crack in the forestock Noel, shit timber. Mine has one in the butt peice as well, small but noticable.

The split in forepeice is a Browning trait, they all do it, shotguns as well.

I also assmue that you are meaning H & F rather than F & G.

Great rifles, shame about the cal and I am goneeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

You want to know the truth?
270 - the greatest calibre ever to grace the earth - great back when people thought a mile was how far great kiwi runners ran, not a distance to measure an extreme long shot. The calibre that all other calibres aspire to be, more power than the space shuttle, better accuracy than any BBR, the calibre that you own when you become a man not an also ran...
Can you handle the truth?

Its a keeper, only shot at 25 yds in a very stiff wind and on a more or less OK shooting setup. gun is certainly capable of 2" at 100 yds.
I dismantled it this afternoon and it is very excellent within, mind you taking the bolt out made me think abit.
