Red/Orange Pigeon

Was drilling a paddock today and amongst the mob of pidgeons was a reddy/orange one.

Went back up this afternoon with a shotgun, was on top of the hayshed. Sadly its still flying, hopefully it wont go far and will come back for me to have a second crack at it and post a pic, or I will just take camera.

Anyone else had any strange coloured pigeons around. X Dundee im sure you have seen a red one up there? (there is something in your water up there as you have some strange coloured creatures)

Don't shoot it get a photo

This bugger came from your way tho.Big fat bugger probably been eatin your crops.
Found this bird in my shed on the 2/11/08, it had a band on it so did some homework. The band was CFC (canterbury flying club) and on the 14/11/08 gave it too a neighbour that was heading from Dannevirke too Wanganui where it was released. And it made it back too the owner Dave Golding on the 30/11/08.
80 were released from Masterton too return too Christchurch and the fastest one got there in 5hr 21mins.
SO I GUESS THE ONE I FOUND LOST THE RACE.Bloody neat  that it made it back home. Smiley

When growing up we had all manner of animals, including Pigeons that were my eldest brothers. A few of them were what you could describe as orange-ish in colour. Are Pigeons pests? If not I would take a photo,  just my opinion.

There's a good reason why they're described as flying rats...

The British like to eat them.
Breast em and fry em up ....Yum Yum (add in throwing up emotion)

We used to shoot the odd 20 or so now and then to stop in-breeding in the  flock. Used a air rifle.
Grandad used to know which ones he wanted kept and then let us knock off the unwanted buggers. He used to eat the ones we shot. The breasts are a real lean dark red meat. He used to fry them up like a liver and have them on toast.
