If you setup your Etrex now then you will have the numbers saved and in September 2009 you can just select “User Grid” and “WGS84” and you will be good to go.
Turn the GPS on. You can do this inside as we don’t need to acquire satellites to change settings.
Press the Page button 4 times. This will bring up the “Menu” Screen.
Scroll down to “Setup”, Press Enter
Scroll down to “Units”, Press Enter
In “Position Frmt”, Select “User Grid”, Press Enter
In the window that comes up you can alter the Grid Reference settings. This changes where your grid starts.
Longitude Origin, Set to E173 00.000
Scale, Set to 0.9996000
False E, Set to 1600000.0
False N, Set to 10000000.0
Select “Save”
This will bring you out to the “Units” page.
Scroll down to “Map Datum”
Select “WGS84”
You are now able to use NZTM2000 Maps when they are issued in September 2009.
To use your current maps, Change “Position Frmt” to “New Zealand”. This will set the datum to “Geod Datum ‘49” Which is what we currently use.

Re: How to set an ETREX for NZTM2000 Reply #1 - Aug 18th, 2009 at 7:59pm
It does, but from what I have read, it isnt the exact same grid as the new maps, which I need it to be for work. So I can enter in the settings manually.
Cheers.

Does that match exactly with nztd2000 ( i think that is the correct term) of the new maps. I was under the impression there was an approx 200m difference.
