Put a large 4l ice cream container with a hole cut out of it over it put leg trap at mouth of it and bait at the back that's all the monitoring guys do
Need info, seeing I have heaps of time (retired!!) gotta get away from house!! anyway, there are pheasants about the river bank where I live, asked council if they would help me set predator traps or ,ie. give me some traps or....? no joy! so Im thinking of doing me own, can;t afford those 200/250, (on pension!!) so what else will do to trap them with? I have seen stoats crossing the road (family of em) in mid day, were heading into a paddock of recently cut maize. So they are about. Keen to experiment with other options besides boxes ie lengths of plastic drainage pipe? also i will need to hide them from people & dogs.
you never forget a person who came to you with a torch in the dark. COURAGE: is knowing it might hurt, & doing it anyway. STUPIDITY is the same & thats why life is hard!

People and dogs on public land.. you need them in boxes that have screwed lids and cant be got into. I use the DOC traps, [200 for ferrets and 150 for stoats] as they are NAWAC approved for humane killing, sorry i know its not what you want to hear but humane killing of the target is important i feel. Rats, i use the Victor Pro rat trap but Cruz is using the Knees trap.
yea ill keepem from now on. theres tons where I am we see a dozen or so every night and I lose a bit over 5% of possums to the dirty bastards goin through pouch and gutting them

Rat bait q for those more knowledgeable on the topic.
I have a couple of stations set up and have been using the wax grain blocks. I have been sticking three blocks in and this is getting nailed over 4-7 days. For the last 5 weeks.
In previous springs single block in the station over 2-3 weeks seems to knock them back.
My q is am I over filling the station and feeding them in the last days before they expire and could maybe fail back to say one?block?
As I type this on the deck I can hear a rat in the nikau so they are still here.

Best if you use a single feed anticoagulant like Contrac - Contrac ( bromadialone) is much safer than Pestoff (brodifacoum) - but both are single feed rat poisons Contrac and Ditrac are both made in Madison Wisconsin. Key Industries in Auckland is a great supplier for all pest control products - they also have 225g blocks of Contrac - comes in a 9kg box. Great for very heavy infestations where you don’t want to recheck bait station so regularly Stay away from first generation multi feed poisons like Ditrac - maybe five days of feeding to finally kill them - mice seem to be able to live on the stuff in bait stations where I have used it https://keyindustries.co.nz/Ordering/Filtering

Interesting as I have had great success with Ditrac. Rodents will often take it when they wont touch standard rat bait. I keep my sheds rodent free with it and lower risk to dogs than anything 2nd generation. A 10kg bucket lasts me ages. Ratabate is also very good and lower risk. Watch Contrac. It is still a 2nd generation anti coagulent and as such is as much a risk as brodi to dogs eating poisoned animals if I am correct. Any Acs used should be fed in a way that they never run out. You do not want animals getting a sub lethal dose when feeding. Just keep the bait to them till they stop taking it. You can buy 450g Ditrac blocks.
