For those that are interested, a new deer cullers website at http://www.nzdeercullers.org.nz/Index1.aspx has been setup by the NZ Deer Cullers Inc. Has photos, history etc.

303 was standard isssue. I think .222 ammo was issued in some North Island areas about 1960. Where I was [South island] we had .222 issued in the winter of 1963. But 303 ammo was still being airdropped into South Island contract blocks up until the end of 1967 which is when I finished up with the Gvt to go onto venison recovery.

Righto, our new secretary is doing this site, but I have a heap of old photos to feed to him as time permits, and others wil come forward with material I,m sure. Only about sixty or so of our two hundred and eighty members have a license to drive a computer. I am permanently on P plates

I think its a great site. My Dad was a culler in the early 50's for a few years in the Ureweras. He is not around now but would have loved to read about it all. I remember he used to talk about Rex Forester and another field officer Ted Rye a lot. I'll show the site to my mum. It will only get better as more stories are added.
