Hi all - I am planning on coming from California to NZ in May to see how y'all are treating my browns! This is part of a longer, extended trip, and I thought I'd lug my 8'5" 5 wt rod along. I am travelling independent backpacker-style, so no car, just public transport and walking. If I base a few days in Turangi, will I be able to reach many fishing spots other than the Tongariro without a car? Is my tackle sufficient for that river or should I leave it at home and hire one? Anyone want a fishing buddy (unfortunately I can't afford guide rates - even tho I know it's a good idea - but I can afford a post-fishing ale or two)?
