Resevoir is currently open to fishing from the dam wall only and is shut over night. It definitely contains wild rainbow trout and has an unproven reputation for growing large fish. Suggest conventional lure fishing or nyphing with caddis imitations once the water cools down a bit. Say about May or June.
There are also fish in the river below the dam. The same access restrictions as the dam apply in this area.
Outside of the Hunua Park there is no Queen's Chain and permission should be sought from landowners. This area is either very poor trout habitat or heavily infested with willows.
