Shimano TLD 25 is a durable reel, but it really depends on what you are going to use it for, as to whether it will suit your style of fishing. I have a Penn 6/0 and my friend uses a TLD 25. These are similar in that they hold roughly the same length of line. The Shimano is a lighter reel, so if you are fishing land-based, and have to carry it in, then this is an advantage. The Shimano has a higher speed retrieve than the Penn, so this could be be an advantage if you need this, however, I find the lower speed better for playing bigger fish. If you are bottom fishing in deep water out of a boat, then you may want a faster speed retrieve for lure/jigging. Hope this helps
Most of the charter operators use Penn reels, so this may be an indication of durability.
Of course you will need to look after it, clean it, maintain it....
A lever drag is good, as you can immediately push it forward to the "strike zone", but I tend to use a lighter drag and use my thumb to slow down the fish if I need to, so the star drag on the Penn is OK for what I need.
