Dear Catherine, Perhaps before you criticise hunting or indeed fishing, you need to actually understand what these pursuits entail. If you see for yourself what actually happens out there in the field it may not appear as 'bad' as you might think. Hunters are not maligned individuals who wish to seek vengence upon the animal kingdom. The practice of hunting (or gathering) has existed in human behaviour for thousands and thousands of years. It was the sole way we fed ourselves before the existance of agriculture. It is little wonder that members of the human race seek to hunt in this modern day. It may not be absolutely necessary as we can buy our food ourselves. But hunting gives one an appreciation of where meat comes from - something the supermarket does not. Hunting is not a cruel pursuit. Responsible hunters despatch the animal instantaneously. There is no pain; and death is a natural consequence of any creatures existance. It is the responsiblity of the hunter to ensure this is humane. Poisoning regimes by bodies such as DOC inflict far more suffering upon a great deal of animals in our forests. Hunters have been villified by the media, ignorance and urban mythology. I encourage you to find out more about hunting before closing your mind to the suggestion. Sincere regards, Rich
