Department of conservation administers all public land on behalf of the New Zealand government. www.doc.govt.nz You will need to get a permit from one of their regional offices. This is free. You will also need to get a tourist firearms license from the New Zealand police. www.police.govt.nz In order to import a firearm you'll also need to satisfy the requirements of new zealand customs as well as the police www.customs.co.nz Maps are avialable at DOC or camping shops. Can I suggest hunting around Turangi for deer, 3 Hours south of Auckland. Either Kaimanawa or Kaweka forest. Most hunters would fly into an area by helicopter, roughly $100 - $150NZD per person.
