I have been useing a Garmin 12 for 12 months. As other e-mails have said- i fix a position before leaving vechile (or main track etc) and then update it when on ridges and clearings. I still use compass and map but it great knowing that i have a accurate back up system. The Garmin 12 is multi channel but does not lock on to satellites in thick canopy thou in any clearings and ridges it quickly locks on.
