I use mine whenever I go into new territory. I get a fix where I leave the wagon, and then whenever I can later on. It's great to find out just where in a gully on a ridge you are. From there I use a map to work out how to get to where I want to go, using the GPS to make sure where to turn of the ridge, or out of the gully. I have found that if I go back to a spot where I got a fix, the GPS usually says I am within 20m of where I actually am, which is plenty accurate enough in the bush! Apparently a GPS with parallel channels (which mine isn't) is a lot better at working under the canopy, so make sure you get one of those. I still carry a compass and map - the compass doesn't stop working when the batteries go dead!
