25-06 is good on deer but with the 120gr projectile is about the same as a 270 with 130gr.
308 with nosler 165BT and winchester 748 should do about 2750 which shoots as flat as 270 with 130. the nosler projectile is soft enough for red deer. i haven't shot thar but heard that you keep putting rounds in their lungs until they get too heavey to stand up
